Always interesting topic. I'm a dragon and my husband is a rooster. People are surprised when they learn we have been married for 54 years.
Wow, 54 years of marriage-that's truly inspiring! 🐉❤🐓 Dragons and Roosters are known to make a strong and dynamic pair, so it’s amazing to see that in action. Wishing you both many more happy years together! 🎉😊 蛇年大吉!

Are you aware how interesting and useful your whole sentence structures are, in addition to your excellent tone lesson. Very interesting that the Chinese people get away with bad tones because of speed of content. For a very long time I have asked myself "How can they possibly be using tones speaking that fast" today you answered that question. A big thank you.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found the tone lesson helpful. You're right, speed and context play a huge role in understanding spoken Chinese. Even with the changes that occur to tones of individual words in the context of natural speech, the overall meaning can often be conveyed through the flow of the conversation. One key point to remember (that wasn't elaborated on in the video) is that for KEY WORDS of a sentence, the tones tend be pronounced clearly/accurately even in FAST native speech. For learners of Mandarin, this point is extremely relevant as it implies that as long as you get the tones right on the words that carry the main meaning of the utterance, you can often get away with making quite a few tone mistakes on other words and still be understood. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your thoughts!
I was exercising while doing this, but I think I got 17-18 out of the first 25. I will review. Only 15 out of 2nd 20. Still, will review.
That's impressive! 🎉 Combining exercise with learning is such a productive combo. Getting 17-18 out of the first 25 is a great start, and reviewing the second set will definitely help you improve. Keep it up-you’ve got this! 💪📚继续加油!

The past few years, I've been relearning and improving my Mandarin after many years away from it. So even after years of learning it, I was surprised that I didn't know a few of these, or had only heard the Taiwan versions. 😆 Thanks for the fun challenge! 👏
That's amazing! It's never too late to reconnect with a language, and it sounds like you've made great progress. 😊 The differences between regional variations can definitely be surprising - it's all part of the fun of learning! I'm glad you enjoyed the challenge. 加油!💪🎉
@@MandarinHQ Thanks for the kind words! Now I want to find an "easy" way to type in Chinese without having to copy-paste from Google. Maybe you could do a video on that!
@@DashingPartyCrasher You're very welcome! 😊 Great idea - I’ll definitely consider making a video on easy ways to type in Chinese! In the meantime, you can try built-in input methods like Pinyin keyboards on phones and computers, or apps like Google Pinyin and Microsoft IME. It’s much easier than it sounds! 😉 Stay tuned!
Dear Angel 老师,thank you for this lesson on Antonym. I usually add a 不 against a positive to get around if i can't find the right opposite. Not the best way 😢😢😢
That's actually a very common strategy, and it works in many cases! 😊 But you're right - it’s not always the most natural way to express opposites in Chinese. I’m so glad you found this lesson helpful! Keep practicing, and with time, you'll build up a solid list of antonyms to use in conversations more naturally. 加油! 💪✨
我很帅,他很臭。对吗? 老师😂谢谢老师。

I am literally day one in learning Mandarin. and came across this holiday episode. and I LOVED it. to see the mouth expressions and then being able to identify shorter phrases out of the holiday phrasing made me very excited to continue to learn Mandarin. SuBBed!
Welcome to your Mandarin learning journey! 🎉 It's so awesome to hear that this video made such a great first impression on you! Starting with shorter phrases is a fantastic way to build confidence, and noticing mouth movements is such a smart observation-it’ll really help with pronunciation. Keep up the excitement, and happy learning! 加油! (Jiāyóu - Keep it up!) 😊
I hate the video, love the song and of course your translation. If the video only showed the girls, it would be ok.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! The video for "Little Apple 小苹果" is definitely unique and quirky, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. It's great to hear that you enjoyed the song and my translation! Hopefully, the catchy tune and lyrics still make it a fun learning experience. 😊
@@MandarinHQ Yes, thank you! Songs are a great way to learn.
@@MandarinHQ I thought it was against the law in China to show naked people like those 2 guys in the video??? Can you explain? Was it made in China?
@@MaxAmerica.Freedom You're absolutely right-songs are such a fun and effective way to learn a language! 🎶 They help with pronunciation, vocabulary, and even understanding cultural context. Keep singing along and enjoying the journey! 🎤😊
@@MaxAmerica.Freedom Great question! Yes, the video for "Little Apple 小苹果" was made in China. The scenes you’re referring to are more playful than provocative and were carefully edited to comply with Chinese media regulations. In Chinese pop culture, humor and exaggerated visuals are often used creatively without crossing strict censorship lines. It’s all about finding that balance while staying entertaining!😄
老师 I’m still confused between particles 那 (4), 哪 (3), 娜 (4) pls explain 🙏
Great question! Here's a quick breakdown to help you out: 那 (nà) - Means "that." It's often used to refer to something far away or previously mentioned. Example: 那是我的书 (That is my book). 哪 (nǎ) - Means "which" or "where." It's used to ask questions. Example: 你是哪国人? (Which country are you from?) or 你去哪儿? (Where are you going?). 娜 (nà) - This is a name or part of a name, often used in female names like 安娜 (Anna). It doesn’t have the same grammatical use as 那 or 哪. Hope this clears things up! Let me know if you need more examples! 😊
@ 多谢老师 can I learn Mandarin from you via Zoom or text messages?? Sometimes I just need a teacher who can answer my questions and perhaps hourly conversation. I also still confused about the differences of - 但是 VS 可是 VS 而是 VS 不过 VS 只是 🤔 谢谢 老师
@@artsyhyd 不客气 😊! I’m so glad you’re eager to learn Mandarin! While I don’t offer private lessons, there are great resources and tutors available online who can help with your specific needs. As for your question about 但是, 可是, 而是, 不过, and 只是-here’s a quick breakdown: 但是/可是: Both mean "but" or "however" and are often interchangeable. 但是 feels slightly more formal. 而是: Used to contrast two ideas, like "but rather." E.g., 不是...而是... (not this, but rather that). 不过: Means "however" or "only," with a softer tone. 只是: Means "just" or "only," often downplaying the statement. Let me know if you’d like examples or more explanations! 加油! 🚀
@ 多谢老师 I need u in my life! Pls some more question: - The differences between 为何 VS 为什么 - The differences between 现在 and 刚刚 - When we wanna say SLEEP 睡觉 VS 睡得 are they interchangeable? - When we wanna say HELP 救命啊 VS 帮我are they interchangeable? 多谢 老师
@@artsyhyd I think the following examples illustrate the meanings and differences fairly clearly: 1. 为何 vs. 为什么 Both mean "why" and are used to ask for reasons. 为何 is more formal and often used in written language or more serious situations. For example: "为何如此悲伤?" (Why are you so sad?) "你为何不早说?" (Why didn't you say it earlier?) 为什么 is more casual and commonly used in everyday conversations. For example: "你为什么迟到了?" (Why are you late?) "天为什么这么热?" (Why is it so hot today?) 2. 现在 vs. 刚刚 现在 means "now" or "at present." For example: "我现在正在学习中文。" (I am learning Chinese now.) "你现在在哪里?" (Where are you now?) 刚刚 means "just now" or "a short time ago." For example: "我刚刚吃过饭。" (I just had dinner.) "他刚刚离开。" (He just left.) 3. 睡觉 vs. 睡得 睡觉 is a verb meaning "to sleep." For example: "我想睡觉了。" (I want to go to sleep.) "他每天晚上11点睡觉。" (He goes to bed at 11 pm every night.) 睡得 is a complement structure that describes the state of sleep. For example: "我睡得很香。" (I slept soundly.) "他睡得不太安稳。" (He didn't sleep very well.) Note: "睡得" is usually followed by an adjective to describe the quality or feeling of sleep. 4. 救命啊 vs. 帮我 救命啊 is used for emergency calls for help, typically in life-threatening situations or extreme danger. For example: "救命啊!我快淹死了!" (Help! I'm drowning!) 帮我 is used to request help in general, not limited to emergencies. For example: "帮我拿一下那本书,好吗?" (Could you please get that book for me?) "帮我个忙,好吗?" (Could you please help me?)
你也是中國的呀!?😮
